Laura Linney's portrayal of vulnerable and yet powerful characters has earned her the title of one of the most popular American actors. Her father was an acclaimed playwright, but Linney was raised as an all-only child by her single-mother, a nurse. In the summer when she was with her father Linney discovered a love for theatre. Her first stage experience was initially at Brown University then at Juilliard School. After graduating at Brown University she made her Broadway debut soon afterward. Within two years of that, her first film came out and the next year she made her television debut. She has appeared on numerous stages, films and television shows since that time. She has been awarded numerous prizes during her professional career. This includes 4 Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. Despite her numerous awards, she still loves theatre and has appeared on both screen and stage.
